A New ADASL Season Starts for VaHi ATLetic FC

Renewed Squad Ready to Put in the Work and Consistency Needed to Succeed in ADASL

ATLetic’s ADASL 15-16  scheduled kickoff game was postponed due to heavy rain so the team will start this season on the road next Sunday

VS Esperanza Resurgens

(Game at 1 pm on 10/11/2015 at Drew Charter School)

Team management has finalized the initial roster for the season. The backbone of the team remains constant, with players that have been with the team for a long time, in some cases since 2004. Keeper and Assistant manager Scott Stilwell returns while Ian Anderson will share the minutes on the goal line. The duo combined for 7 league clean sheets last season and bring stability and confidence on their position, a strong foundation for ATLetic’s season.

Central defenders Milos Kvasay, Jacob Schutz and Florentino Aguilar also return and provide the team with the right mix of height, strength, pace and confidence on the ball to shut down teams and score goals on set pieces.  Andy Mungan and Danny Battaglia will continue playing as fullbacks bringing speed and control to a key position for the team defensive and offensives phases of the game

In the middle of the park Felipe Lobelo and Silviu Raducu are once again the enforcers, adding ball control and positional awareness to bring balance to the team. Junior Laurencin will continue to provide the creativity and ball distribution. In attack a pair of kings will be the targets up front with John King providing power in the shot and Aaron King the finishing and linkup play that has made him ATLetic’s all-time leading scorer with an impressive 44 goals in two and a half seasons with the club.

Notable returns from a couple of seasons back include Qasim Karimi and Tornubari “T-bone” Nyoebue. Karimi’s ball control and ability to assist and score are welcomed additions while T-bone’s strength, pace and ability to put defenders under pressure will have an instant impact, generating more goal scoring opportunities

(ATLetic’s new home field: Agnes Scott College Gellersted Field in Decatur, GA)

During the off-season tryouts 9 new players were identified to strengthen the roster in all positions. Central defender Matt Glick and fullbacks Vinny Chang and Demian Perelmuter bring grit, stamina and ball control to an already string defensive line. In the middle Salvadorian brothers Aaron and Brestor Bardales, Jamaican Aikele Williams and Nigerian Yusuf Jalingo add quality, ball control and strength on the engine room. Ehjayson Henry and Victor Deniran bring pace, work rate and creativity and can operate in the wide areas or as supporting forwards.

Overall, 14 nations are represented in this year’s roster, a mix of footballing cultures that aligns well with team’s heritage since the days it was Inter ATL FC.

The teams average age this year  is exactly 30 years old, a god mix of experienced and new players typically needed to succeed at this competitive level.

The team will play their home game this season at Agnes Scott College Gellersted field, a fabulous natural grass field located near downtown Decatur.  Here is the schedule for the first half of the season, including our initial Perrin Cup draw. We hope we can count on your support to help us navigate this season successfully one game at a time!
