VaHi ATLetic FC started off on the right track their quest for the D3 ADASL title by defeating a young Morehouse SC team by a score of 1-0. The game was played at 11 am at Morehouse’s home field, Brown MS in SE Atlanta.
ATLetic dominated most of the game by keeping the ball in the midfield. However, season kickoff games often are plagued with imprecision and ATLetic FC’s ball flow wasn’t the best in the 1st half, in part due to the high grass at Brown MS. Morehouse’s pace also created some problems for ATLetic’s backline so the 0-0 result at the end of 1st half was fair.
In the 2nd half ATLetic came out determined to score and created several chances to score via crosses in the box and long-range shots as well as combination plays in the middle of the pitch. The pressure finally paid around the 70th minute of play when ATLetic’s play maker Jose Baltazar scored on a long range bending shot that the keeper couldn’t keep out despite reaching the ball.
Morehouse SC stepped up their efforts to equalize and applied pressure in the last 20 minutes of the game but an experienced ATLetic defense led by Juan Torres, Milos Kvasay and Keeper Scott Stilwell, was able to close out the game with a clean sheet.
An important away win for VaHi ATLetic FC in their season opener which will help build their confidence as the season progresses. The team has high expectations this season for both the league and Perrin Cup. Improvements in ball possession flow as well as maintaining calm and collected under pressure will be required for ATLetic to keep winning as they face a very tough schedule in ADASL Division 3 football.
